What common discounts take off your original price, and what you end up paying.

Discount You save You pay

The discount is calculated on the original price (MRP). When two offers stack – say 25% off and an extra 10% coupon – the second is applied to the already-reduced price, so the combined saving is a little less than simply adding the two percentages. GST, when applicable, is charged on the discounted price, not the MRP.

Sales and offers are everywhere, but working out the real price in your head is not always easy. This discount calculator in Indian rupees does it instantly. How to calculate discount percentage in rupees

If you know the original price and the price you actually paid, you can find the discount you got. Here is how to calculate the discount percentage in rupees:

Discount % = (Original Price − Final Price) ÷ Original Price × 100

For example, if an item’s MRP is ₹2,499 and you paid ₹1,874, you saved ₹625, which is 25% off. Switch to the “Find discount %” tab, enter both prices, and the calculator works out the percentage for you.

How to calculate price after discount

Going the other way – from a percentage to a price – is just as simple. Here is how to calculate the price after discount:

Final Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount % ÷ 100)

So a ₹2,499 item at 25% off costs ₹2,499 × 0.75 = ₹1,874. The savings are ₹2,499 × 0.25 = ₹625. The “Price after discount” tab does this automatically, and lets you stack an extra coupon or add GST on top.

Stacked discounts – why 25% + 10% is not 35%

When a store offers a discount and then an extra coupon, the two do not simply add up. The second discount applies to the already-reduced price. So ₹2,000 with 25% off becomes ₹1,500, and a further 10% off that is ₹1,350 – an effective discount of 32.5%, not 35%. This calculator handles the stacking correctly so you see the true final price.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate a discount in rupees?

Multiply the original price by the discount percentage and divide by 100 to get the savings in rupees, then subtract that from the original price to get what you pay. For example, 25% of ₹2,499 is ₹625 saved, so you pay ₹1,874. This calculator does it instantly.

How do I calculate the discount percentage in rupees?

Subtract the price you paid from the original price, divide by the original price, and multiply by 100. If MRP was ₹2,499 and you paid ₹1,874, the discount is (2499 − 1874) ÷ 2499 × 100 = 25%. Use the “Find discount %” tab for this.

How do I find the price after a discount?

Multiply the original price by (1 minus the discount as a decimal). For 25% off, multiply by 0.75. So ₹2,499 × 0.75 = ₹1,874. The “Price after discount” tab calculates this and can also add a coupon or GST.

Do stacked discounts add together?

No. A second discount applies to the already-reduced price, not the original. So 25% off followed by 10% off gives an effective 32.5% discount, not 35%. This calculator applies stacked discounts in the correct order.

Is GST charged before or after the discount?

GST is charged on the discounted price, not the original MRP. So if an item is ₹2,000, discounted to ₹1,500, and GST is 18%, the tax is on ₹1,500, making the final price ₹1,770. Turn on the GST option to include it.

Is this discount calculator free to use?

Yes, it is completely free, works entirely in Indian rupees, and needs no sign-up. Use it for shopping, sales, billing or quick percentage checks anytime.
